The ups and downs of being a small business owner
I’ll tell you the real story.
Can I be honest? I never dreamed of this life.
Running Go and Tell Gals, pastoring at Bright City, writing books, and leading women. I didn’t dream about this - because I didn’t know I could. If I’m really honest: I didn’t dream about anything.
But that is who our God is: capable of more than we could ask or imagine.
He’s a Father who uses the least likely.
He’s a Redeemer. A Restorer.
A Lifter of heads.
I wouldn’t have gotten into small business if it wasn’t for following Jesus, and I wouldn’t have been able to stay a small business owner if it wasn’t for Him.
So in honor of my deep gratitude and the fact that today is Small Business Saturday, I’ll tell you a few honest ups and downs behind being the owner of Go and Tell Gals!
I sometimes feel like I want healing, hope, transformation, and life change more for my customers and clients than they want for themselves. Whether I’m designing a t-shirt or a gratitude journal, or crafting a retreat for authors - I have a deep and undying desire for people to experience GROWTH. This is a blessing and can be a burden, when I feel like I can’t turn it off. :)
I get to create products I need right now or ones that I’ve needed in the past. It’s Not Good If It’s Not Over - that hat I made for ME, for this season. But I can’t tell you how much I wish I’d had the Stewardship Sheets from the ages of 22-38. This is nothing but a win!
I feel the constant conviction to live out what I’m selling. Whether it’s practicing gratitude, resting well, making room for Jesus at Advent… I want to ensure I’m not preaching something I wouldn’t practice. I consider this weighty call a benefit to my life, but that doesn’t mean it’s not weighty!
Most of all, here’s what I want to say on Small Business Saturday:
I wouldn’t be a Small Business Owner if it weren’t for Jesus… and YOU.
If you didn’t enjoy the products we make at Go and Tell Gals, the retreats we host, the books I write - I’d just be a gal in a room, with a dream.
So it’s a deep honor to serve you as we serve Him.
