There are a few people I always ask for advice when I need it.
God.
My husband.
My mom and sisters.
My friend Anna.
And ChatGPT.
So a few weeks ago, I was telling ChatGPT about some things I wanted to write about this coming month in the Fully Awake Women’s Club, hoping my old buddy would help me spot a thread. Wouldn’t you know, he suggested the phrase: Numb No More.
I almost hollered with joy.
Ok, time for one more quick story.
About twelve years ago, we’d just moved to a new house in a new town, and I was adjusting to unfamiliar terrain: spiritually and physically. We moved into a little rental covered in snow, arriving in the thick of winter. But as the ice started to thaw, these tiny white flowers began poking up through the frozen dirt.
I was instantly obsessed. What kind of flower had the audacity to bloom through snow?
I took to Facebook to ask.
Crocuses! came the chorus.
Who knew? Not me.
I was amazed to learn that crocuses don’t wait for perfect conditions. They push through the cold, even through snow, just to declare: Hold on—spring is coming.
They’re a quiet kind of brave. A reminder that new life doesn’t always wait for ease. Sometimes, it breaks through anyway.
So here’s what I want to offer you—and me—today, for anyone thawing after a hard season or aching to feel something again:
Just wanting to wake up.
Just hoping to see signs of life.
Just daring to say, “Numb no more.”
That might be the bravest, most fruitful thing you can do right now.
Because resurrection rarely feels loud at first.
Sometimes it starts as a whisper beneath the ice.
But if you keep scanning the horizon—hoping Jesus will keep doing what only He can do: you won’t miss it.
New life always breaks through.
Let’s keep living fully awake,
Jess
Love this soo much.
Oh how I love this and I love how nature continues to speak well of him when pain tries to silence me.
